I am proud to express my full support for the Maasser el-Shouf archaeological project (MeSAP). This archaeological initiative is of high scientific and strategic significance for the country, capable of enhancing a heritage of extraordinary historical relevance in the Shouf region. This project represents an advanced model of cultural cooperation between Lebanon and Italy, built on exchanges of expertise, shared training programs and field schools. I commend the dedication of the team working with professionalism and passion to safeguard the Qalaat el-Hosn site and make it accessible to all. In line with its vision, the Ministry remains firmly committed to supporting initiatives that foster knowledge, awareness, and appreciation of our cultural heritage. The Directorate General of Antiquities (DGA), responsible for safeguarding Lebanon's cultural heritage, recognises the outstanding scientific value of the Maasser el-Shouf archaeological project (MeSAP) and the importance of the discovery of the temple complex at Qalaat el-Hosn for understanding the historical dynamics of Lebanon's mountainous region. As part of its strategy to promote sustainable development at the local level and foster cultural awareness in rural communities, the DGA considers this project a model of decentralisation that empowers local authorities, strengthens public participation, and enhances the effective management of cultural resources. MeSAP adopts a multidisciplinary approach that integrates archaeological research, heritage protection, advanced conservation techniques and the training of new generations of specialists, through close collaboration between Lebanese and Italian institutions. Through this website, visitors are invited to explore Lebanon's rich archaeological heritage, appreciate its cultural significance, and follow the progress of ongoing research, conservation, and community engagement efforts.
